| Crystal Unicorns |
| Up ahead, a pair of unicorns, colored in hues that blend in well with the earthy colors of the Forest, stand watching as you approach. The tall brown one keeps its nose held high, sniffing the wind. You greet the pair, and the brown one lowers her head and speaks. "It is a pleasure to meet one who has walked so far and who has seen so much of the world," she says with approval in her voice. "We are the Crystal Unicorns. I am called Quis, which means "earth" in your speech." "Are you related to Flame Unicorns in any way?" you ask. "I have only just visited with them." Quis gives you a little smile. "Perhaps. Who can say? We are both types of unicorn, that much is certain." An infuriatingly vague answer, you think. Of course, you suppose that unicorns have a right to be like that. Suddenly curious, you wonder about the other Crystal unicorn, who has so far been silent. "This is my half-brother," Quis tells you, seeing your gaze go to the tan painted stallion. "He is called Xick'Mel, or Quick Watch." The stallion bows politely to you. He is an exceptionally noble looking creature, and he stands tall and proud. He carries an air of quiet intelligence in his blue eyes. "What do you two do here, alone in the Forest?" you ask, wanting to know more about this pair. "Do?" Xick'Mel asks. "What more is there to do than enjoy life and to take in the wonder of everything around you? Don't you do this every day as a traveler?" "I suppose so," you answer, feeling foolish for asking such a silly question. "I only ask because it seems that Adlana has put certain creatures in charge of certain tasks." Quis chuckles. "Ah, Adlana does like to do such things. She like to keep things in her own order. She does generally know what is best for the Forest, though. That is why she is in charge." The stallion nods, apparently agreeing with this statement. "I must be moving on my way," you tell the unicorns. "Farewell!" |
